FREDERICK, MD – Democrat Ron Young announced his support for a European-style value added tax on
his website. Young’s site features a “Frequently Asked Questions” portion, and when asked how he
would “increase revenues,” Young responded by proposing a hidden, European-style form of taxation
levied at various levels of production.
“My opponent supports a form of taxation that currently does not exist anywhere else in the United
States,” explained Senator Mooney. “This form of taxation hides the additional charges from consumers,
who would not realize they were paying the tax.”
“Liberal Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi supports this destructive form of taxation,” Mooney said.
“My opponent can’t seem to make up his mind on the issue of taxation. He says he won’t consider
raising taxes, yet announces his support for entirely new forms of taxation on his website. Voters want
to know, which is it?”
During a debate with Senator Alex Mooney at Frederick Community College on October 5, Ron Young
announced, “I’m not supporting taxes – any tax increases at this time. It’s the wrong time to do that.”
This is a stark contrast to his enthusiastic support for the hidden tax on goods.
“Ron Young is incapable of telling voters the truth when it comes to raising taxes,” charged Mooney.
“Sending Young to Annapolis will guarantee another ‘Yes’ vote for job-killing taxes that hurt Maryland
families.”
