MARYLAND FARM BUREAU ENDORSES SENATOR ALEX X. MOONEY

Mooney Committed to Supporting Western Maryland’s Agricultural Community

FREDERICK, MD – The Maryland Farm Bureau announced its endorsement for Senator Alex X. Mooney
today, citing Mooney’s support for agricultural issues through his “voting record, state positions, actions
taken in the past and on the recommendations of the Candidate Evaluation Committees of the local
Farm Bureaus.”

“I am honored to have the support of the Maryland Farm Bureau, and I will continue to support issues
which are important to Western Maryland’s agricultural community,” Senator Mooney said. “On matters
like the elimination of the death tax and establishing responsible environmental policies, I have stood
with Maryland’s farmers and will continue to be a strong voice for them in Annapolis.”

Senator Mooney has co-sponsored legislation twice between the 2007 and 2010 Sessions which address
the impact of the estate tax on the agricultural community – SB 731 in 2007 and SB 155 in 2010. Both
aimed to eliminate the estate tax for family farms under easement.

Additionally, Senator Mooney sponsored a number of initiatives to help farmers in the 2010 Session,
including SB 199, which authorized counties to establish a seasonal farmer’s market license, and SB 198
and 912, which reduced regulations placed on farmer’s markets.

“I look forward to standing with farmers and those who work in the farm industry again when I return to
Annapolis,” Mooney affirmed.
