INTRODUCTION
 ATM is a computerized
telecommunications device that
provides the clients of
a financial institution with
access to financial
transactions in a public space
without the need for a cashier,
human clerk or bank teller.

 The customer is identified by


inserting a plastic ATM
card with a magnetic stripe or a
plastic smart card with a chip,
that contains a unique card
number.
For security, Personal Identification Number is to be provided by
the customer.

An ATM machine can hold up to 5 to 10 million rupees depending on


capacity.

Automated Teller Machine is known by different names:

 Cash Point (Britain)


 Multibanco (Portugal)
 Minibank (Norway)
 All Time Money (India)
 Bankomat (Various European Countries and Russia)
Invented in 1967 by
Scotsman, James Shepherd.

Was installed at Barclays


Bank of England, Enfield
Branch, East London.

Paper Vouchers was used


to withdraw cash from ATM

The Paper Voucher was


needed to be purchased in
advance from the bank.
Machine paid out notes in £10
bundles.

The service dispensed notes


when the Paper Voucher was
matched with correct code.

the first person to use this
machine.

Pakistan in 1995.

It was installed at Clifton branch, Karachi.

MNET and 1LINK are the two operational switches


operational in Pakistan.

Both the switches got interconnected in the year 2006.

SAFETY TIPS
 Immediately after receiving your ATM card
change the PIN code.

 Change it frequently.

 Never write your PIN on card.

 Never keep your card and PIN at same place.

 Never share your PIN or give it our phone.


 As you approach ATM, be aware of surrounding, if you
notice anything unusual, visit ATM later.

 Immediately report a lost or stolen ATM card to your


branch.

 Stand close to your ATM while entering PIN and don’t


allow anyone to watch.

 Frequently generate your Mini Statement and reconcile


with your ATM receipts.
