WHAT I

We know that fast food is one of the most

popular things in America, but what
exactly is it?
FAST FOOD

Fast food is any food that is quick,

convenient, and usually inexpensive.
Fast food is everywhere. It is
available and very
accessible, which is one
reason why fast food is so
popular around the world.
WHAT’S IN IT ?

Processed foods are heavy on

horribly unhealthy ingredients. Most
fast food are loaded with fats,
sugar, salt, calories and artificial
additives.
HOW IS IT BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH ?

The main issues with takeaways and fast food

restaurants are the high fat, calorie and salt content.

A typical meal at a fast food restaurant contains

about 1,000 calories. That is about half the
recommended daily amount in one single meal !
HOW IS IT AFFECTING AMERICA?

We all know that America is known for

being the fattest nation in the world, but
have you ever wondered why?
OBESITY IN AMERICA

Statistics show that 30.6% of America’s population is

obese. That is the highest percentage of obesity of a
population in the world !

Fast Food contributes a lot to not just America,

but obesity in general.

Fast Food is cheap, convenient, and great

tasting to most people. People become addicted to
eating fast food, and that leads to bad eating habits,
which also leads to weight gain.
FAST FOOD IN THE U.S

The United States has the largest fast food industry in the world, and
American fast food restaurants are located in over 100 countries. There
are about 2 million U.S. workers in the areas of food preparation and
food servicing including fast food in the USA
IS FAST FOOD DEADLY?

Fast Food has many health issues. Heart disease,

Diabetes, Obesity, and Strokes are just some of the
many issues of fast food.
According to a study conducted by
LaSalle Bank in Chicago it was
appalling to find that city residents living
around fast-food restaurants and few
grocery stores are at an increased risk
of dying due to heart problems,
diabetes and cancer.
WHY IS FAST FOOD SO POPULAR IN
AMERICA?

United States has the largest fast food

industry in the world. Many variables
contribute to the popularity of fast food
such as advertising, cost, and
accessibility.
ADVERTISING

Over 10 billion dollars is spent on fast

food advertising to children annually.
They spend so much on children
because children today have more
purchasing power. They are the
consumers of tomorrow, and because
they influence other people to purchase,
such as parents.
COST

Fast food is usually very cheap and that

tends to attract people. Many fast food
restaurants nowadays have special offers
such as McDonald's dollar menu.
SPEED

The time it takes for you to get your

food also contributes to the popularity
of fast food. Some people don’t like to
wait a long time for their food to arrive,
so they resort to fast food. A
hamburger at McDonalds takes less
than a minute to make !
LOCATION

Many fast food restaurants are

located in specific areas for a reason.
The location of a fast food restaurant
is key to success.
LOCATIONS IN UNITED STATES

There are over 12,000 McDonalds

restaurants in the United States alone!
The fast food industry is growing by
the minute, and our country is at risk
of even higher obesity and death
rates.
SCHOOLS

Many fast food restaurants are

located around schools. The fast food
industries do this because their main
target is children. Children are the
consumers of tomorrow so the fast
food industry primarily focuses on
them.
HERE AT BALBOA…

Fast food is not a surprising thing here at Balboa.

Places such as Burger King, and Subway are just
a few of many fast food places located just a few
blocks away.
