The speed factor enables more frequent testing

of devices under development, thus allowing more
interactions between simulation and prototyping. STEP 1: Fast first order simulation
Indeed, the quasi-real time visualization of the radiation
pattern of the antenna under test enables engineers to
immediately adapt accordingly the prototype design.
The integration of continuous measurements into the
antenna design process improves the overall efficiency
of the development work. High quality products and
adaptive measurement systems will be the future of
the antenna industry.

All measurement systems have been developed by

SATIMO based on its two main product lines, StarLab
and SG systems. These systems are aimed at optimi-
zing the design, validation, certification and produc-
tion stages of all types of antennas. Our systems are

able to characterize the performances of:
• Stand alone antennas (antenna measurements).
• Antenna mounted on structure i.e. automotive/
aerospace and defense (antenna performance
within a complex structure).
• Antennas integrated in mobile telecommunication
devices (Over the Air measurements).

4/ Wearable antennas measurements

Using probe arrays allows interaction assessment
between antennas and their environement. Hen-
ce, with SATIMO measurement systems, wearable
antennas can be measured while actually being
worn. Those measurements complete simulation and
phantom usage, and bring one step further the
knowledge of the performances of those antennas in
the field.

SG LF version with two kinds of probes SG system: oversampling function

Oversampling capability
A combination of automated mechanical and electronically scanned probe array is available to provide un-limi-
ted scan resolution in both elevation and azimuth.
The spacing between two probes is 5.29º. This spacing is suitable for small antenna testing. For
larger antennas, an additional mechanical rotation is combined to the probe array. In this case, the positioning
mast rotates with ±2.6° in elevation, in order to adjust the position of the DUT on offset locations. This “fills in
the gaps” and provides the possibility of unlimited sampling.

Oversampling capability SG system: oversampling function
A combination of automated mechanical and elec-
tronically scanned probe array is available to provide
unlimited scan resolution in both elevation and azimuth.
The spacing between two probes is 10.59º. This
spacing is suitable for small antenna testing. For
larger antennas, an additional mechanical rotation is
combined to the probe array. In this case, the posi-
tioning mast rotates with ±5.3° in elevation, in order
to adjust the position of the DUT on offset locations.
This “fills in the gaps” and provides the possibility of
unlimited sampling.

SATIMO offers several methods to reduce the TIS
measurement time. One of them, the TIS based on
Rx level, uses the DUT receiver as power meter with
certain communication protocols (like GSM and WCD-

the DUT. The DUT receiver then reports back its re-
ceived power level and the complete spherical set of
power level data can be referenced to a single-point
EIS measurement to determine the TIS.

CTIA reporting supported

Data can be exported in different formats, such as
tab limited ascii formats, binary, XML or NetCDF For-
mat. The user can adjust the files content to his/her
requirements: separate data according to parameters
or store only a part of the measurement.
Reports can be automatically generated in any format
supported by Windows. The content and lay out of the
format can be adapted to specific requirements, such
as CTIA certification reports.

A Multi-profile User Interface

SAM2 offers different measurement configurations,
depending on the level of expertise of the user. Users
with limited experience are guided through the dif-
ferent measurement steps, whereas experimented
users can access a full range of parameters.

• Radio Communication Tester: A Radio Com-
munication Tester is a base station simulator with
measurement capabilities. It is the signal generator
and measurement receiver.
• Uplink/Downlink Switch is included in the Amplifi-
cation Unit of the SG or StarLab.
• Link antenna: is a low reflectivity antenna moun-
ted inside the positioning mast, close to the turnta-
ble. It rotates with the DUT, maintaining a constant
link, which reduces the risk for dropped calls during
testing.
• Active Switching Unit (optional): allows to switch
automatically between different test equipments.
• Wideband Dynamic Range Adapter (optional): It
is a step attenuator allowing SAM2 to automatically
adjust the output range of the Radio Communica-
tion Tester.

About SATIMO
SATIMO specializes in the design and manufacturing of
antenna measurement systems. The company has mo-
ved antenna measurement techniques forward with a
unique, innovative multi-probe technology. The technology
is based on the use of arrays of probes that are electronically
scanned to measure electromagnetic fields. This technology
has brought two major changes in the field of antenna
measurement: the speed (a single electronic scan allows the
visualization of the fields in 1D or 2D almost instantaneously)
and the flexibility (the array can be integrated in any kind of
geometry for both indoor and outdoor measurements).
SATIMO is part of Microwave Vision SA, which includes
ORBIT/FR and AEMI, and offers full turnkey systems to
measure a stand alone antenna or antennas integrated into > Contact SATIMO:
