STORY TITLE :

BAWANG MERAH,
BAWANG PUTIH
Bawang Merah’s mother had passed away. Now she
lived with her stepmother. She had a stepsister called
Bawang Putih. Bawang Merah’s stepmother disliked
her. She was always scolded by her stepmother.
Bawang Merah grew up to be a very beautiful girl.
Bawang Putih, who was not beautiful, was jealous of
her stepsister. Bawang Merah’s stepmother always
bullied her by asking her to do heavy chores.
Bawang Merah was very sad. She went to the well
and cried. Suddenly, a fish appeared on the surface of
the water. “Don’t cry. I shall be your friend,” said the
fish. Bawang Merah was not sad anymore.
Unfortunately, her step mother saw what she was
doing. One day, her stepmother asked Bawang Putih to
catch the fish and make fish curry. Bawang Merah did
not know what had happened. One night, Bawang
Merah dreams that her mother told her to bury the
bones of the fish at the back of their house. The next
day, Bawang Merah collects the fish bones and bury it.

When she woke up the next morning, she saw a

tree at the place where she buried the bones. On the
tree was a swing made of gold. Bawang Merah sat on
the swing singing happily. Her voice was very sweet.
One day, a prince heard her singing. “Whose sweet
voice was that?” asked the prince. The guards went to
investigate. The guards found out that the voice
belonged to Bawang Merah. The prince married
Bawang Merah. They lived happily in the palace. The
moral of the story is do not be envious if others have
more than what you have.
