Snow White

Once upon a time, there lived a little girl named Snow White. She lived with her Aunt and Uncle
because her parents were dead.

One day she heard her Uncle and Aunt talking about leaving Snow White in the castle because they
both wanted to go to America and they didn’t have enough money to take Snow White.

Snow White did not want her Uncle and Aunt to do this so she decided it would be best if she ran
away. The next morning she ran away from home when her Aunt and Uncle were having breakfast.
She ran away into the woods.

She was very tired and hungry.

Then she saw this little cottage. She knocked but no one answered so she went inside and fell
asleep.
Meanwhile, the seven dwarfs were coming home from work. They went inside. There they found
Snow White sleeping. Then Snow White woke up. She saw the dwarfs. The dwarfs said, “What s
your name?” “I am Snow Said,” she said.

The dwarfs said, “If you wish, you may live here with us.” Snow White said, “Oh, I could? Thank
you.” Then Snow White told the dwarfs the whole story and Snow White and the seven dwarfs
lived happily ever after.

Ariel the Little Mermaid

Once, there lived a mermaid named Ariel and her friend Flounder. They liked to play hide-and-seek

under the sea. One day, they invited the baby seal to play with them. The baby seal was very excited to

play.

“One, two, three…,” Ariel started to count. Flounder and the baby seal hid. “Ready or not, here I

come!” Ariel said. She tried to find them in the seaweed bush but they were not there. Then she sought

among the coral reefs. “Gotcha!” shouted her. She had found Flounder.

Now, Ariel had to find the baby seal. Then she tried to find the baby seal inside a chest. She saw many

things there, but not the baby seal. After that, she looked under a rock cliff and only saw a sleeping

blowfish.

Suddenly, she heard something, “Squeak! Squeak!” Ariel wondered what sound that was. She swam

following the sound. At last, she found out that it was the baby seal. It was stung by a jellyfish and his

tail was caught in a giant clamshell. Ariel came to help by opening the shell. Finally, Ariel lifted the

shell up and set the baby seal free. She was happy to find and save the baby seal.
CINDERELLA

Once upon a time, there lived a beautiful girl with two


step sisters and stepmother. Since her biological father
died, she was treated like a maid. Forced to comply with
the requests of her stepmother and her two step sisters.
Even so, Cinderella was a kind girl, she still loved her
step sisters and stepmother.One day a kingdom hold a
dance party. Invitations were spread all the way to the
villages. The dance party would be hold in the kingdom
palace. This dance party was aimed to find a girl who
would be the prince’s wife. Hearing about the good
news, Cinderella’s half sisters were very happy.
“Mother, please buy me the most beautiful dress to
attend a dance party at the palace tonight” said the eldest
sister. “Me too, Mom, buy me a new dress. I do not want
dissapoint the prince when dancing with me” said the
second sister. Hearing her daughter chattering happily,
the mother replied “of course, I will buy a nice and
beautiful dress for each of you”.

Cinderella who was sweeping looked very happy, in her heart she also wanted to go to a dance party at
the palace, she said to her stepmother “Mother, please allow me to go to the dance, I do not need a new
dress. Just allow me to go”. Cinderella’s step mother and her two step sisters were very upset. The
mother said “You can not. You have to clean the house and do the laundry.” Hearing that, Cinderella
was silent. Her wish to meet the prince failed. Nevertheless she wanted to go no matter what her step
mother and steps sister had said.

The day of the dance party was came. Cinderella’s step mother and her two half-sisters were preparing
to go to the palace. They wear the best dresses with beautiful shoes and make-up. And for Cinderella,
the mother had made a list of things that Cinderella had to do until they returned from the party.
Cinderella was sad, because she knew the tasks were too many and she could not finish them all that
night. When her step mother and her step sisters were gone to the party, Cinderella sat next to the
fireplace and her cried. When Cinderella was crying, she heard voice.

“Cinderella, calmed down. Don’t be sad. You’re going to join this dance party tonight. Do not worry,
I’ll help you.” The voice said.

Cinderella surprised, “who are you?”.

“I am a fairy. I come here to help you. You have suffer enough, dear.” Said the voice again.

Cinderella was looking around to find the source of the voice. And when she looked at the window, she
saw a fair fairy. With a charming smile, the fairy twirled her wand. All the works that the mother had
asked Cinderella to do to were done. The fairy also changed Cinderella’s old dress to a beautiful dress
like a royal princess. She wore a nice dress, gold crown, beautiful face, and a pair of glass shoes.
Cinderella was so beautiful that night. And moreever, she was so happy.

“Thank you fairy. But how do I get to the palace? I don’t have any horse or cart to go to the palace.”
Cinderella said.

“Don’t worry, dear.” Said the fairy.


The fairy twirled her wand again and turned the pumpkin in the table to be a coach and turned the mice
to be horses.

“You’ll ride with this coach, dear.” Said the fairy.

“Thank you.” Said Cinderella.

“But, you should come back before the midnight. After the midnight, the spell will be vanish.” Said the
fairy.

“Ok, I will come back before the midnight. I promise.” Cinderella nodded.

Without wasting time, Cinderella went to the palace. At the palace, all people were stunned to see the
beauty of Cinderella. Even her step mother and her step sisters did not recognize she was Cinderella.
The prince was in love with Cinderella. He invited Cinderella to dance. They danced so beautifully.
And that time, the prince knew that Cinderella was the one he wanted to be his wife. They both were
very happy. Suddenly the midnight bell rang. And Cinderella knew she had to go back before all the
spells vanished.

“I have to go now, prince” Cinderella said.

“Wait princess, what is your name?” Asked the prince.


Cinderella did not answer it and ran stright to the coach and came back to home. When she ran,
unintentionally, one of Cinderella’s glass shoes was slipped out on the terrace of the palace. The prince
took it. He had made a promise to find the owner of the glass shoe.

The next day, the prince and his bodyguard went all the way to the country, but found no girl fit the
glass shoe. Until the prince came to Cinderella’s house. Her stepsisters were very excited to hear the
prince’s arrival.

“It belongs to me, my dear prince. Let me try it.” Said the sisters. However, it turned out that the glass
shoe did not fit them.

Suddenly Cinderella said “let me try it, my prince”.

The Prince replied “please, my lady”.

And when Cinderella tried the shoe, it perfectly fit. That time, the prince knew that it was Cinderella
shoe. That time also, the prince asked Cinderella to go to the palace and live with him as his wife.
Cinderella said yes and then they married. They lived happy after.
Bawang Merah and Bawang Putih

Bawang Putih lived with her step mother and


her step sister, Bawang Merah. Bawang Putih’s
mother died when she was a baby. Her father
remarried another woman and later her step sister was
born. Unfortunately, not long after that her father
died. Since then, Bawang Putih’s life was sad. Her
step mother and her step sister treated Bawang Putih
badly and always asked her to do all the household
chores.

One morning, Bawang Putih was washing some clothes in a river. Accidentally, her mother’s
clothes were washed away by the river. She was really worried so she walked along the river side to
find the clothes. Finally she met an old woman. She said that she kept the clothes and would give them
back to Bawang Putih if she helped the old woman do the household chores. Bawang Putih helped her
happily. After everything was finished, the old woman returned the clothes. She also gave Bawang
Putih a gift. The old woman had two pumpkins, one pumpkin was small and the other one was big.
Bawang Putih had to choose one.

Bawang Putih was not a greedy girl. So she took the small one. After thanking the old woman,
Bawang Putih then went home. When she arrived home, her step mother and Bawang Merah were
angry. They had been waiting for her all day long. Bawang Putih then told about the clothes, the old
woman, and the pumpkin. Her mother was really angry so she grabbed the pumpkin and smashed it to
the floor. Suddenly they all were surprised. Inside the pumpkin they found jewelries. “Bawang Merah,
hurry up. Go to the river and throw my clothes into the water. After that, find the old woman.
Remember, you have to take the big pumpkin,” the step mother asked Bawang Merah to do exactly the
same as Bawang Putih’s experience. Bawang Merah immediately went to the river. She threw the
clothes and pretended to search them. Not long after that, she met the old woman. Again she asked
Bawang Merah to do household chores. She refused and asked the old woman to give her a big
pumpkin. The old woman then gave her the big one. Bawang Merah was so happy. She ran very fast.
When she arrived home, her mother was impatient. She directly smashed the pumpkin to the floor.

They were screaming. There were a lot of snakes inside the pumpkin! They were really scared.
They were afraid the snakes would bite them. “Mom, I think God just punished us. We had done bad
things to Bawang Putih. And God didn’t like that. We have to apologize to Bawang Putih,” said
Bawang Merah. Finally both of them realized their mistakes. They apologized and Bawang Putih
forgave them. Now the family is not poor anymore. Bawang Putih decided to sell all the jewelries and
used the money for their daily lives.

Once upon a time in west Java, Indonesia lived a wise king who had a beautiful daughter. Her
name was Dayang Sumbi. She liked weaving very much. Once she was weaving a cloth when one of
her tool fell to the ground. She was very tired at the time so she was too lazy to take it. Then she just
shouted out loud.
She shouted ‘Anybody there? Bring me my tool. I will give you special present. If you are
female, I will consider you as my sister. If you are male, I will marry you’
Suddenly a male dog, its name was Tumang, came. He brought her the falling tool. Dayang
Sumbi was very surprised. She regretted her words but she could not deny it. So she had to marry
Tumang and leave her father. Then they lived in a small village. Several months later they had a
son. His name was Sangkuriang. He was a handsome and healthy boy.
Sangkuriang liked hunting very much. He often went hunting to the forest using his
arrow. When he went hunting Tumang always with him. In the past there were many deer in Java so
Sangkuriang often hunted for deer.
One day Dayang Sumbi wanted to have deer’s heart so she asked Sangkuriang to hunt for a
deer. Then Sangkuriang went to the forest with his arrow and his faithful dog Tumang. But after
several days in the wood Sangkuriang could not find any deer. They were all
disappeared. Sangkuriang was exhausted and desperate. He did not want to disappoint her mother so
he killed Tumang. He did not know that Tumang was his father. At home he gave Tumang’s heart to
her mother.
But Dayang Sumbi knew that it was Tumang’s heart. She was so angry that she could not
control her emotion. She hit Sangkuriang at his head. Sangkuriang was wounded. There was a scar in
his head. She also repelled her son. Sangkuriang left her mother in sadness.
Many years passed and Sangkuriang became a strong young man. He
wandered everywhere. One day he arrived at his own village but he did not realized it. There he met
Dayang Sumbi. At the time Dayang Sumbi was given an eternal beauty by God so she stayed young
forever. Both of them did not know each other. So they fell in love and then they decided to marry.
But then Dayang Sumbi recognized a scar on his Sangkuriang’s head. She knew that
Sangkuriang was his son. It was impossible for them to marry. She told sangkuriang but sangkuriang
did not believe her. He wished that they marry soon. So Dayang Sumbi gave a very difficult
condition. She wanted Sangkuriang to build a lake and a boat in one night! She said she needed that
for honeymoon.
Sangkuriang agreed. With the help of genie and spirits Sangkuriang tried to build them. By
midnight he had finished the lake by building a dam in Citarum river. Then he started building the
boat. It was almost dawn when he nearly finished it. Meanwhile Dayang Sumbi kept watching on
them. She was very worried when she knew this. So she made lights in the east. Then the spirits
thought that it was already dawn. It was time for them to leave. They left Sangkuriang alone. Without
their help sangkuriang could not finish the boat.
Sangkuriang was very angry. He kicked the boat. Then the boat turned out to be Mount
Tangkuban Perahu. It means boat upside down. From a distant it looks like a boat upside down.
Narrative Text Legend Candi Prambanan di Yogyakarta

Once upon a time, there was a powerful prince named Bandung Bondowoso. In a war,
Bandung Bondowoso killed Prabu Baka. Then, Bandung Bondowoso fell in love with Prabu
Baka’s daughter named Roro Jonggrang.

Bondowoso wanted to marry this beautiful princess. However, princess hated him because he
had killed her father. Roro Jonggrang was thinking of a way to refuse Bodowoso’s marriage
proposal. Finally, she decided to marry Bandung Bondowoso if he could build a thousand
temples before dawn.

Being helped by genies, Bondowoso built many temples very fast. Roro Jonggrang wanted to
fail him. She asked all women in her village to hit rice so rooster crowed signing that morning
was coming. All genies left their project until 999 temples. They thought morning came
afterward.

Finally, Bondowoso knew that Roro Jonggrang tricked him. He got very angry so he cursed
Roro Jonggrang into a rock statue “Arca”. Roro Jonggrang statue is inside Candi Prambanan
to complete the project of a thousand temples.

On a hill in area of Borneo, there lived a poor widow and her daughter. The girl was really
beautiful. However, she was very lazy and spoiled. She loved to dress up every day, but never
helped her mother.

One day, they went down to a village for shopping. A market was far away from their house.
They walked there. The girl got dressed very nice and walked in front of her mother. While the
widow walked behind, carried a basket, wore dirty clothes. Nobody knew they were mother
and daughter.

While entering village, people looked at them. Young men were so fascinated by girl’s beauty.
However, she was in contrast to a woman walking behind her. It made people wonder. Some
young men asked her whether woman was her mother. But girl arrogantly replied that she
was her maid. More people asked her along the way to market. She gave a same answer that
widow was her slave.

Eventually, mother’s heart hurt to hear her daughter’s answer. Mother prayed to God to
punish her ungodly daughter. Suddenly, girl stopped then slowly turned to be a stone.
Daughter cried; she apologized to his mother. But it was too late. A pretty girl was turned into
a stone but continued to tear; it’s called A Crying Stone.

On a land of Parahyangan, there lived a beautiful princess named Dayang Sumbi. Because of
her oath, she had to marry a dog named Tumang. Dayang Sumbi with her dog lived happily
and blessed with a boy, Sangkuriang. The boy didn’t know that their dog was his father.

One day, Dayang Sumbi asked Sangkuriang with his dog to hunt a deer. Sangkuriang got
nothing. He did not want to disappoint his mother. He decided to kill his dog. Dayang Sumbi
thought it was venison. After knowing the truth, Sangkuriang was hit and expelled by his
mother.

Sangkuriang grew overseas into a powerful handsome man. Then, he m

et Dayang Sumbi then fell in love with her. One day before wedding, Dayang Sumbi realized
that Sangkuriang was her son. Dayang Sumbi wanted to thwart their marriage. She gave a
condition to make a dam that covered the entire hill and to make a boat during one night.

Sangkuriang agreed then worked with help of many genies. The dam and boat were almost
finished. Dayang Sumbi prayed to God. The roosters crowed so all genies left that job.
Sangkuriang realized that he had been tricked. He was angry; he kicked that boat into the
middle of a forest. Then, that boat shaped like a mountain. That is the legend of Tangkuban
Parahu.

In Daha kingdom there lived a powerful Brahmin named Sidi Mantra. Her son’s name was
Manik Angkeran. Manik Angkeran liked to gamble. One day, Manik Angkeran could not pay
the debt. He asked help to father.

Loving his son, Sidi Mantra fasted then prayed to the God. A mysterious voice asked him to
meet Naga Besukih at Agung Mount. By ringing a genta, Naga Besukih came and gave gold
as well as diamonds from his scales. Soon, Manik Angkeran finished all gold and diamonds.
He asked help to his father again. Sidi Mantra came to Naga Besukih. This time, Manik
Angkeran secretly followed Sidi Mantra.

A few days later, Manik Angkeran stole father’s genta then came to Naga Besukih. Manik
Angkeran got gold and diamonds. But he was not satisfied. Manik Angkeran saw a big gem at
the end of dragon’s tail. When Naga Besukih turned toward a cave, Manik Angkeran
immediately cut off dragon’s tail then ran away.

Naga Besukih was furious then licked Manik Angkeran’s footprints. Then he turned into ashes.
Sidi Matra was aware of this situation; he begged Naga Besukih to revive his son. Naga
Besukih agreed if his tail was back. With magic, Sidi Mantra returned dragon’s tail back to
normal. Then, Naga Besukih revived Manik Angkeran.
Sidi Mantra knew that he could not live with Manik Angkeran anymore. With a magical wand,
Sidi Mantra made a line that separated him from son. There came springs growing into a sea.
This is the legend of Bali Strait separating Java from Bali.

The Legend Of Hanging Rock

Once, in a rural village next to Lake Toba North Sumatera, there lived a husband and a wife with a beautiful
daughter named Seruni. Not only was she beautiful, Seruni was also very diligent in helping her parents in the
field. Every day this family worked in this field on the edge of Lake Toba, and the outcomes are used for their
daily needs.

One day, Seruni went to the field alone, because his parents went to a neighboring village. Seruni was only
accompanied by her beloved dog named Toki's. Arriving at the farm, she didn’t work but he just sat there
looking at the natural beauty of Lake Toba as if she had solved a difficult problem. While the dog, the Toki,
came sitting next to her, staring at her face as if he knew what Seruni thought. Once in a while the dog barked to
distract Seruni, but she is not teased.

The last few days Seruni looked glum. He was very sad, because she was given in marriage by her parents with a
young man who was his cousin. Though she had chosen his loved man and she had promised to live together
with him. She was very confused. On the one hand she did not want to disappoint her parents, and she could not
afford to part with her love. Because of being unable to bear the heavy burden, he was getting hopeless.

"Yes, Lord! I am not able to live with this burden, "complained the Seruni.

A few moments later, Seruni moved from his seat. With tears, she walked slowly toward the Lake Toba.
Apparently she wanted to end his life by jumping into the lake's and the Toki, followed his master from behind
while barking. With a mind raging, Seruni walked toward the cliffs of Lake Toba without paying attention to the
road in its path. Unexpectedly, she suddenly fell into a hole. The rocky ground that made the hole was getting
dark. Seruni girl is very scared.

"Help.. Help.. Help.., Toki! "Seruni voice asking for help to her beloved dog.

The Toki understood if Seruni required his help, but he could not do anything except just barking at the hole.
Seruni screamed several times for help, but the Toki really could not afford helping her. Finally she was getting
desperate.

"Ah, I'd rather die than live a long time to suffer," Seruni resigned.

Rock walls were moving ever closer.

"Parapat...! Parapat Parapat ... "ordered Seruni to press her body withthe stone

Being unable to help Seruni, Toki immediately ran home to ask for help.
Arriving at the master's house, he immediately went to Seruni parents.

"Auggg ...! auggg ...! auggg ... "Toki's barking while clawing at the ground to tell the parents that the Seruni in
danger.

"Toki ..., where is Seruni? What happened to her? "Asked the father to the dog's Seruni.

"Auggg ...! auggg ...! auggg ...! "he continued barking and ran back and forth to invite them to a place.

"Sir, it looks like Seruni in danger," said the mother of Seruni.

Parapat stone ...! "

"Sir, listen to that voice! That voice is of our child! Seruni’s mother cried frantically.
"Yes, ma'am! That sounds Seruni! "Replied the father panic.
"But, why would he shout: Parapat, parapatlah stone?" Asked the mother.
"I do not know, mom! It seems like there's something wrong in there, "said the father anxiously.

A Farmer was trying to light up the hole with a torch, but the bottom of the hole was so deep that it can not be
penetrated by torchlight.
"Seruniii ...! Seruniii ...! "Cried the father of Seruni.
"Seruni ... my daughter! The mother and father came to help you! "Her mother shouted.

Several times they yelled, but they did not get a response from Seruni. Only voice drifted Seruni who sent the
stone closer to squeezing.
"Parapat ...! Parapatlah stone ...! Parapat! "
"Seruniiii ... my daughter!" Once again the mother screaming and crying hysterically Seruni.

People in attendance at the place were trying to help. One held ropes to the bottom of the hole, but the slap was
not touched at all. Seruni's father increasingly concerned with the state of her father. He also decided to follow
her foray into the rock pit.

"Mom, hold the torch!" Command of the father.


"Where do you want to go?" Asked the mother.
"I'm following the Seruni into the hole," he replied firmly.

A moment later, suddenly heard a roar. The earth shook violently as if to an end. Rock hole suddenly closes
itself. The cliffs at the edge of Lake Toba was falling. Seruni's father and mother and all the people ran thither to
escape. They left the mouth of the hole the rock, so that poor Seruni could not be rescued from the crush of rock.

Some time after the earthquake stopped, suddenly appeared a large rock that resembles a girl's body and as if
hanging on the wall of the cliff at the edge of Lake Toba. Local people believe that the stone is the embodiment
Seruni oppressed in the hole. By those stones were then given the name "Hanging Rock".

A few days later, fame spread the word about the events that befall her. The people flocked to the scene to see
the "Hanging Rock" is. Residents who witnessed the incident told other people that before the hole was closed, a
voice: "... Parapat Parapat parapat stone ...!"
