8 seconds- A man is seen taking pictures in a secluded
house. He is in darkness and the only light is from the
occasional flash of the camera. He hears a distorted
laugh and appears to be very frightened. The audience
can see that there is something lurking in the darkness.
The production companies label shows on screen.
1:00- One victim is instructed to kill the other. There is a
series of captions on the screen reading “madman”,
“Voyeur” “Psychopath” and “Prophet”. There is a
voiceover of the police indicating that the jigsaw killer
enjoys playing sick games. The victims realise what he
wants them to do- cut through their own hands and feet.
1:48- A woman is shown crying, she is understood to be
a family member of one of the victims. The music
becomes even more increasingly threatening and loud
and the sound of the woman crying can be heard over it.
24 seconds- It is clear that two victims are trapped in a
bathroom and are tied up with no means of escape. In
the background there are sounds of muffled screams
and high pitched noises. This is when the villain first
appears. He addresses his victims and tells them he
“wants to play a game”.
1:32- a clearly battered woman is seen talking to police
officer. She is asked whether he “picked” her because
she is a drug addict and she replies “No, he helped me”.
This shows the way that he can twist his victims views
on him. The music becomes increasingly threatening
and shows some short flashing scenes of windows
smashing and people screaming.
1:50- A man is shown imprisoned in wires. It is clear that
he is being tortured in some way by the villain.
34 Seconds- Various newspaper articles are shown with
the title “Jigsaw killer”. There is the voices of people
talking about the fact that he isn’t really a murderer, he
has ways of forcing his victims to kill themselves. This
alternates with scenes of the victims still trapped in the
bathroom.
1:46- One of the victims is shown to be killing the other
one, there is a series of short shots of his victims with
high pitched sounds and the sounds of screaming. The
pace of the trailer is quickened, heightening the tension.
The screen reads “Its his game” “Its your move”, this
involves the audience with the action.
1:53- The screen fades to black, and the title “Saw”
comes up on the screen with the voiceover of the villain
saying “make your choice”.
