Interstices Discussion Assignment

25 points; minimum of 250 words

Due: Monday, Nov. 1st

Assignment: For this assignment, you are being asked to contribute to the online discussion of
the Honors book Interstices. Read an essay of your choice from the Interstices text, and write a
250-word reflective essay in which you respond to, comment on, and/or analyze the reading.
You should be discussing your own thoughts concerning the reading, so avoid merely
summarizing—unless the summary is brief and helps to set up your reflections and analysis.

You can reach the Interstices discussion forum by logging into this course on Moodle and
clicking on “Projects” in the left-hand margin. I suggest browsing the Your Space—Interstices
Discussions topic forums before composing and contributing your own comment. In particular,
try reading several entries written by other authors and note the different categories (sets) of
questions.

By class on Monday, you need to have posted your reflection on the reading of your choice. Also
bring a printed copy of your reflective essay to turn in. Your next assignment will involve
responding to an essay by one of your classmates…

…Part Two

Half of the 25 points mentioned above; minimum of 250 words

Due: Monday, Nov. 8th

Assignment: For this assignment, you are being asked to contribute, yet again, to the online
discussion of the Honors book Interstices. However, this time you should respond directly to
someone else’s post in the Honors Moodle discussion forum. Your response should be a
minimum of 250 words in length, and it should address an idea (or ideas) the original poster has
raised. Please remember to obey online discussion rules of etiquette, by remaining conciliatory
and addressing ideas. Remember that one of the major goals of this assignment is to get you
thinking about the main ideas informing the selection of the texts in Interstices, as well as how
those ideas relate to you as a student and community member of UNC Charlotte, the University
Honors Program, and society at large. Ultimately, the dialogue you engage in—with the text and
your colleagues on Moodle—should help you to discover the main focus for your Freshman
Seminar portfolio.

By class on Monday, you need to have posted your response, and you should bring a printed
copy to turn in.
