It is important to have a general knowledge of the company before the interview to show that
you have interest in the company. Some information that can be important to research includes:
 Current CEO and other top Employees
 How many years the company has been around and the job description
 Locations of offices and how many people are employed
 Major Clients and Competitors

Prepare a list of your qualifications


It is important to have a list of your qualifications before going into an interview because it is
very common for an interviewer to ask why you are qualified for the job.

Perform Mock Interviews


A good way to prepare for an interview is to sit down with someone to ask you questions that
you may receive during your interview. A few example questions you may here are:
 What makes you qualified for this job?
 What are some reasons you want to work for us?
 What are your major strengths or weaknesses?

Demonstrate proper business etiquette


You should dress in a professional manner and be well groomed before the interview. Proper
attire for men includes a suit and a tie and for women, a suit (pants or skirt). Also, it is
imperative to arrive on time or even early with appropriate documents. You may want to include
a few copies of your resume and a notepad and pen to take notes during the interview. Also, the
interviewer may need proper identification as well as a social security card.

Interviews: First Round


Presenting a strong first impression is a good way to start an interview. You should be very
friendly while providing a firm handshake and wait until the interviewer seats you.

Star Technique
The star technique is a good tool to follow when answering behavioral questions.
 Situation: Give specific examples of your experiences from previous jobs or academics
 Task: Tell the interviewer the specific tasks you took in your experiences
 Action: Describe the actions you took and what skills helped you to perform the task
 Result: What did you learn from the experience and how can they be used in the future
While in the interview it is important to act professional. Be confident in how you speak and
maintain good eye contact. Also, you should maintain good posture and avoid fidgeting with
objects or other body parts.
