Case Study Kenya Broadcasting
Case Study Kenya Broadcasting
The situation when Amiran Communications step into the picture was that the
UPS room was massively overcrowded, over heated, and with not sufficient
power for the mission critical applications. The electrical system was a patch
over patch.
The unique requirements here were:
• Modularity – The customer wanted to replace 2x30+2x60+100KVA UPSs
into a set of 2 Power+ 80KVA in parallel. It was important to the customer
to protect their investment, and having the capacity to grow with the
system into a full 2x100KVA, and even to add another Power+ rack
• Full redundancy – As all the applications powered by the power+ are
mission critical, Horizontal redundancy was required, on top of Power+
vertical redundancy (between the modules)
• Light weight and minimum floor space – As the UPS room is located
at 4th floor, the massive weight of the existing UPSs and Batteries
prohibited us from loading the structure with additional weight. The
buildings’ engineers warned of the extra load will exceed the building’s
capacity to hold.
We had to dismantle one of the existing UPSs and setup the Power+ one
by one.
• Efficiency – as the room was overheating an extremely efficient power
supply was required.
As the customer was looking to upgrade their UPS and improve the infrastructure,
for the data center as well as transmission and other mission critical systems,
they have considered and reviewed many solutions from different manufacturers.
The customer purchased Gamatronic Power+ systems, whereas the decision was
based on the unique characteristics of this product, such as redundancy,
efficiency, and minimum floor space and heat generation.
The Power+ answered all these requirements to the customer’s full satisfaction.
A set of 2x80KVA parallel system was offered equipped with 64x40Ah battery
banks answering the modularity and redundancy requirements. Efficiency of 96%
promised that the less Air-conditioning was needed to keep the UPS room cool.
BEFORE:
Gamatronic would like to thank our partner in Kenya- Amiran Communications for
this case study and the efforts in describing the process and key advantages.
Who else was bidding for the job and what equipment were they offering?
G.A.: APC and GE. APC have Symmetra modular system and GE bid with non modular UPSs,
