1. Characteristics of the whisk fern


The whisk fern is one of the 3 types of ferns discovered (the other two are horse tails and the
marsilea). It is known for the alternation of generation, and is believed to be one of the most
ancient of vascular plants. This plant is a rootless, simple plant with rhizoids, as anchoring
structures, and hairless upright stems with simple sterile pendages. The spore cases are fused
into twos or threes.

Whisk ferns are found in places with warm weather of the tropics and subtropics, so they could
be seen in the south region of:

- The United States of America


- Japan
- Australia
- and New Zealand
