DRAMA REFLECTION

This week in drama class, we first talked about “metacognitive awareness”. In

regulation of metacognitive awareness there are 3 elements:

1) Planning
2) Monitoring
3) Evaluating

which are exactly the same thing with teaching itself.

And also we talked about drama demonstrations. They will be about “pre”, “while”
or “post” parts of our previous demonstrations. I mean in one of these parts, we should
use any of the drama types such as:

 Improvisation
 Role-playing
 Simulating
 Story Telling
 Pantomime

By using one of these drama types in class we aim to:

 involve the students in the class,

 make the students participate in the class,
 foster students’ creativity,
 foster the cooperation between students,
 make the students communicate in the target language.

As for the activity we did this week, it was “silent movie”. It was very enjoyable
and fun for us. It was a group work which important to increase the cooperation
between students. Our group chose to act “Hürmüz’s four husband” . We first played
it silently and our friends only watched us. Then the teacher wanted our friends to dub
us while we were acting it for the second time. They tried to do it with the help of our
body language, posture, mime, hand and arm movements. Our friends had to observe us
very carefully in order to dub us correctly. That’s why it is also important in terms of
osbservation in the clas. Lastly we did the same thing on a video. The teacher brought a
demonstration video of one of our friends. We first watched its vocalised version, then
the teacher muted it and wanted us to dub it. In order to do it we had to watch the
video very carefully.

As a conclusion; with the help of this class and the activitiy I really understand
the importance of non-verbal communication, especially in language classes.
