related to global issues, including news, original documents, and multimedia.
- https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/ - The CIA world factbook
provides information on the history, culture, geopolitical landscape and more for 266
countries around the world.
- http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/country_profiles/default.stm - Similar information as the
CIA World Factbook but also includes international organizations (Red Cross, European
Union, etc). Results include information as well as news and multimedia links.
- http://aip.completeplanet.com – Listing of databases from around the web. Searchable
by keyword.
- Open-Access Journal Resources - Databases of free full text published articles.

o http://www.eric.ed.gov/ - Provides article searches. Limit your criteria to “full
text” articles for free, full-length articles and papers.

Organizations / Volunteerism

service projects. Provides information on getting involved in projects. Also allows
posting of projects that you have created.
- http://www.volunteermatch.org/ - Search for service projects and places to volunteer
near you and non-profits and corporations doing work in your area.
- http://www.dosomething.org/ - Search function for volunteer opportunities specifically
geared toward teens.
- http://www.handsonnetwork.org/ - Find volunteer opportunities near you or become a
volunteer leader. Also helps organizations and companies to find and train volunteers.
- http://www.volunteerspot.com/about - Partners with nonprofit and government agencies to
provide compelling volunteer opportunities. Offers training, resources, and networking
opportunities that equip agencies to engage volunteers in meaningful service. 

Fundraising
- http://www.crowdrise.com/ - A fundraising site that allows you to publicize your project
and solicit funds simultaneously. Also allows you to search volunteer opportunities.
- http://www.firstgiving.com/ - Allows you to select a non-profit to support and create a
fundraising site to promote the organization and solicit donations for them.
- http://www.eboosterclub.com/ - Fundraising site that provides personalized
organization websites, printable fundraising handouts, and marketing support.
- http://www.globalgiving.org/ - Site to post your own projects and solicit funding or
search for projects in progress to fund. Searchable by topic and region.

Social Networking/Outreach
- http://www.facebook.com/causes - Facebook Causes allows you to create a facebook
cause page, like a fan or group page, dedicated to raising money and awareness about
an issue of your choice. It’s a good way to get your project noticed while providing a
venue for advocacy and fundraising.
- http://www.nabuur.com/ - Nabuur allows local communities to connect and collaborate
with people around the world who are interested in helping. The site offers a forum for
people living in the communities to interact with their “neighbors” (sort of like facebook
friends) to solve problems and work on projects for that community.
- http://www.whatkidscando.org/ - WKCD is a venue for kids to share inspiring stories
and ideas for change. WKCD also provides grants that work with youth on media,
curricula, and research.
- http://www.worldyouthnews.org/ - World Youth News allows students to become
global reporters. Students must complete the free, online reporter certification course
and are then allowed to submit stories for publication to the site.

- http://www.tigweb.org/ - Taking it Global is an online community for youth interested in
global issues. Includes research, volunteer opportunities, and social networking.
- http://idealist.org/ - A site dedicated to facilitating interaction between people and
organizations in hopes of improving the world. Offers information on non-profits, events
and speakers, campaigns, projects and service groups to get involved with, as well as
materials for making a difference.
- http://www.whatkidscando.org/ - a place for funding and publicity, but also a way to
learn about what other youth are doing across the country
