How do the organizational design, the corporate culture, and human

resources practices of Big Spaceship supports the firm’s value

proposition.
Original Structure:
In the original Structure there were 50 employees. The Organizational design,
corporate culture and HR practices work well for Big Space Ship.

• Creative
• Keen Focus of Innovation
• Distinct model of Engagement with the customer
• Allow free flow of information
Issues with the Original Structure when the team size started
growing due to more work coming in.
• Territorialism
• Passing the buck to other
• Lack of Communication as the team size grew
• People getting lost in mix
• People getting bunched together ,getting dispersed and
having no communication after that.
Solution (Current Organization Structure)

• Creation of the interdisciplinary teams

• Philosophy of coming with interdisciplinary teams is that its not individual
that makes Organization, but combination of individuals and their skills.
Risks with the Current Org Structure

• Locking Employees
• Organization Rigidity
• Economic Inefficiency
• People left with no work or some time full of work
• Understaffed team

Misalignment
• Team size & Project Size
• Knowledge gap b/w designers
Proposed Solution

• Remove Organizational Rigidity b/w teams by allowing resources to move

around as needed.
• Share of best practices and form a discussion forum.
If You were Michael.L, what would you do to ensure that Big Spaceship
could grow in a suitable way and at an optimal pace? Or would you like
it to be a Boutique itself.?
Three Areas of Focus

• Capital Size
• How far to go with the size of employees
• Pilot for growth
Capital Size

• Raise Capital on own by diversifying to other medium

– E.g. Traditional Advertising without diluting core values
• Controlling Core design and outsource production
How Far

• Size doesn’t matter

– E.g. Berkshire Hathaway
• Need for innovation never ends

A Large Team does NOT mean successful organization

Pilot for growth:

• Internal Leadership Teams & retain internal culture & provide opportunity.
