The steps below are also documented in more detail in the Technical Documentation:

1. Go to http://www.juniper.net/techpubs/software/screenos
2. Select the ScreenOS version
3. For ScreenOS 6.0 and greater: Select the 'Upgrade Guide'  
For ScreenOS 5.4 and below: Select the 'Release Notes'

Refer to the 'Upgrade using the WebUI' and 'Upgrade Using the CLI" sections.

UPGRADE using the WEBUI

To upgrade ScreenOS via the WebUI, perform the following steps:

You can download firmware updates from the Juniper website. For more information on downloading firmware
updates from the website, go to Downloading NetScreen Firmware Updates from the Web .

1. Open the WebUI. For more information on accessing the WebUI, go to Accessing Your NetScreen
Using the WebUI.
2. Login as the root admin or an admin with read-write privileges..
3. Before upgrading or downgrading a security device, save the existing configuration file to avoid losing any
data.  From the ScreenOS options menu, click Configuration > Update, and then click Save to File
In the File Download dialog box, click Save. - Navigate to the location where you want to save the
configuration file (cfg.txt), and then click Save.

4. To upgrade, select Configuration > Update > ScreenOS/Keys:

5. From the ScreenOS/Keys page, click to select Firmware Update, and click Browse:

6. From the Choose file dialog box, click to select the update file, and then click Save.

Important note:  Make sure that that the ScreenOS firmware that you select has been extracted
from the ZIP file.

For this example, we selected the ssg5ssg20.6.1.0r1.0 update file.


7. From the ScreenOS/Keys page, click Apply.   Read the NOTE before clicking OK.  In the Microsoft Internet
Explorer window, click OK.

NOTE: The firewall will automatically reboot after you select OK and the firmware has been
updated.
