and somewhere outside. The crisis in media concerns every group in society.

How do we engage in a
new debate with civil society about the future of public information, about the future of media? How do
we build thrust in media and how do we create an understanding, a better understanding inside society
of the role that media and free journalism play in our democracy. In a world of the internet we need
more media literacy, we need people to help, we need to help people to understand how they can
identify good and usefull information, how to navigate through the trivial, the indecent, the dishonest,
the corrupt information that is so freely available on the end of our telephones or from our computers.
So we need a new debate within society. The third challange to us, we employers, employers having a
key role to play in bulding a more unified approach within the industry on how to deal with this crisis.
We need to have respect for the collective agreements and the rights of the workers. But perhaps most
importantly, we need to have respect for the mission of journalism itself. In many countries the media
industry has been overtaken by an atmosphere of panic and there is now savage cuts taking place at
editorial departments .

dezbatere cu societatea civila in ceea ce priveste viitorul informatilor publice, in ceea ce priveste viitorul
mijloacelor de informare? Cum construim increderea in mijloacele de informare si cum cream o
intelegere, o mai buna intelegere, inauntrul societatii, a rolului pe care mijloacele de informare si presa
libera il joaca in democratia noastra. Intr-o lume a internetului, avem nevoie de mai multa literalitate a
mijloacelor de informare, avem nevoie de oameni care sa ajute, trebuie sa ii ajutam pe oameni sa
inteleaga cum pot identifica informatiile bune si utile, cum sa inoate printre informatiile triviale,
indecente, false si corupte care sunt atat de liber accesibile de la celalalt capat al firului sau prin
intermediul calculatoarele noastre. Asa ca avem nevoie de o noua dezbatere in cadrul societatii. Cea de-
a treia provocare a noastra, a noastra a angajatorilor, angajatori avand un rol cheie in construirea unei
abordari mai unificate(solide) in industrie in ceea ce priveste modalitatea de abordare a acestei crize.
Trebuie sa respectam acordurile colective si drepturile angajatilor. Dar poate cel mai important lucru
este sa respectam misiunea jurnalismului in sine. In multe tari, industria media a fost preluata de o
atmosfera de panica, iar in departamentele editoriale au loc “prelucrari” salbatice.
