Compression : Rate

• The amount by which the data you have


decided to keep is then reduced in size
ready for storage.
• Some formats throw away lots of data even
before compression takes place.
• Best formats are those which use little or no
compression (visually lossless). These are
usually the most expensive.

Conclusions
• Digital S, like other high end formats uses
mild 3.3:1 compression, producing better
picture detail, multi-generation performance
and less compression artifacts than the
small DV formats.
• Unlike the other high end formats, Digital S
is not expensive to own and run.
