 Virtualization is a broad term that refers to the
abstraction of resources across many aspects of
computing

 For our purposes - One physical machine to support

multiple virtual machines that run in parallel.
 Hardware Virtualization

 Virtual Machine Virtualization

 Physical system is
divided

 One or more CPUs per

partition

 Full electrical isolation

 Can Consolidate multiple servers
◦ Reduced administration

 Requires high-end servers

◦ Usually Itanium based
◦ Can be expensive

 Limited number of partitions

 The Hypervisor or Virtual machine monitor

• A computing layer which allows multiple operating

systems to run on a host computer at the same time.

 VPC 2007 w/ Vista
 Audio support
 Server consolidation

 Multiple OS & Application support

 Lab and Deployment Testing

 Training

 Disaster Recovery

 Application Isolation
 For demanding applications, virtualization isn't a good
choice.

 Too many virtual servers on one physical machine

cannot be supported.

Migration is only possible if both physical

machines use the same manufacturer's processors.

 Security related issues.

 soon: Virtualization Monitor will become part of a
standard "boot loader“.

 Linux/*BSD & Reactos will be the "Any Os" with

best possible hardware support.

 whenever needed: Virtualization will become a key

technology in privacy enforcement
No more hassles with ‘Copyright Enforcement’
Technologies
 Virtualization can be used effectively in
environments where multiple operating systems,
kernel-level access are needed.

 A very cost effective solution
