DRAMA 2010-2011

Week 9
That week we went observing our friends’ presentations. I think we’re getting better in
monitoring classroom, grouping students, and checking instructions. Our instructor told the
presenters that they should back up the instructions with gestures and facial expressions. I
learned from today’s demos that we should give instructions and clarify each step before
distributing the role cards in order not to cause a chaotic atmosphere. I also learned that role
cards shouldn’t be long; otherwise, they would be time consuming. They should be short,
clear and specific. Presenters brought materials related to the activities, which makes the
activities more meaningful. Some drama activities were used as pre-activities; however, they
could be good post activities. Presenters checked our pronunciation mistakes after the activity,
which is good.

We had difficulty in making smooth transitions and interacting with students. We should
be very careful when choosing a drama activity. As it should be pedagogically appropriate, it
shouldn’t include discrimination or comparing and contrasting different nations. As we
discussed in the lesson we shouldn’t evaluate cultural habits.
