Wedding Preparation

Pastor Jason Armold

• Shiddukhin: The selection of the bride
• Ketuba: Is the proposal and the purchase
price (mohar) for the dowry must be
established with two un-objectionable
witnesses.
• Matthew 17
• Kiddushin: Is the first part of a two part
ceremony, this signifies the sanctifying or
dedicating of the bride to him only. (Eph 5)
• Erusin: This is also part of the first, It is the
announcement of the covenant and purchase
price with a ceremonial cup of wine. There
must be at least 10 witnesses who will now go
and broadcast the ceremony…. Matthew26
• The first step of part two of the ceremony is
the nissuin, this is the first phase of co-
habitation and is predicated by a separation
period in which the groom prepares a home
for the bride.
• John 14
• The second step of part two is conducted in a
huppah or the place of consumation.
• The wedding tradition is accompanied by both
a word and blood covenant.
• Upon arrival to take His bride the bridegroom
descends with a shout to announce His
arrival…. 1 Thess 4
• The groom is responsible for the dress of the
wedding and the invitation ….. Matthew 22
• This wedding ceremony is about to be
complete. As God prepares to send His Son to
get His Bride.
• This Jewish wedding custom shows the
urgency of the hour, because it is almost
fulfilled. We can see where we are at on God’s
timetable!
Preparations Being Made
• Matthew 24 – Jesus’ prophetic preparation for
His Saints.

• Ephesians 2.10; Romans 9.23 – Preparation

done for us in Christ

• Matthew 25 – The importance and urgency in

our preparation for Christ’s return.
Our Preparation
• Ephesians 6:13-18 Therefore take up the whole armor of God,
that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having
done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist
with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel
of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you
will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit,
which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and
supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all
perseverance and supplication for all the saints—
• Ephesians 6.15 “and having shod your feet with
the preparation of the gospel of peace;”
• Preparation –hetoimasia- readiness. The Gospel
itself is to be the firm footing of the believer, his
walk being worthy of it and a testimony to it.
• Shod (bind) – hupodeo – under, to bind
underneath. Without shoes, our feet get hurt
when we try to walk, run, etc. if our feet get
hurt, we can’t even walk!
• Accept Christ’s invitation (salvation)
• Matthew 22:9-10 Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you
find, invite to the wedding.’ So those servants went out into the
highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and
good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.
• The importance of sharing the Gospel, we extend His invitation.
• Matthew 22:2-5 “The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who
arranged a marriage for his son, and sent out his servants to call
those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to
come. Again, he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are
invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle
are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding.”’ But they
made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another
to his business.
• Live worthy of Him and the marriage contract
• The contract is the Word of God
• 1 Peter 1:16 “because it is written, “Be holy,
for I am holy.”
• Exodus 24:7 Then he took the Book of the
Covenant and read in the hearing of the
people. And they said, “All that the LORD has
said we will do, and be obedient.”
• Be properly dressed for the wedding
• Matthew 22:11-14 “But when the king came in to
see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have
on a wedding garment. So he said to him, ‘Friend,
how did you come in here without a wedding
garment?’ And he was speechless. Then the king
said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take
him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there
will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ “For many
are called, but few are chosen.”
• Revelation 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the
marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.”

• Luke 1:17 He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to
turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the
wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

• 2 Timothy 2:21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he

will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared
for every good work.
