Magnet
 A magnet is a material or object that
produces a magnetic field.

 Magnetic field is invisible but is


responsible for force, that pulls on other
ferromagnetic materials like iron and
attracts or repels other magnets.
History
 Shepherds grazing cattle on the island of “Magnetia” in
Greece, noticed that their nails in their shoes were
getting stuck to the ground.

 The shepherds were very surprised & enjoyed the play.

 They brought that magic stone home & show it


everyone.

 Since the stone was first found in “Magnetia”, it came


to be known as “Magnet”.
Types
 There are 4 types of Magnets:

 1. Bar magnet
 2. Shoe Horse
 3. Cylindrical Magnet
 4. Needle Magnet

 It is an instrument used
to ascertain directions
while traveling at
unknown places at night,
in ships or in aero planes.

 In this a magnetic needle


is placed on an axle in
such a way that it moves
freely.
When does Magnetism get Destroyed?

 When magnet is heated more

 When magnet is hammered.

 When similar poles of magnet are kept together


for a long time, the magnetism of the magnet is
destroyed
How to prepare your own magnet
 For this you have to use a needle, and a magnet.
 Place the needle on a table , on wooden plank or
in your hand.
 Now take a magnet and rub the magnet from one
end to end in one direction only.
 Rub the magnet 4 or 5 times in the same way.
 The more you rub your magnet will be stronger.
 Now to cheek your magnet hold paperclips.
 How many paperclips did your magnet afford.
