    A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in
    Milwaukie for the Rev. Lawrence J. Saalfeld, who died Aug. 16 at age 87. An Office of the Dead will be
    at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, also in the church.

    The Rev. Saalfeld was born Nov. 19, 1919, in Mt. Angel. He was ordained as a Catholic priest in 1944
    and served in many capacities for the Archdiocese of Portland, including teaching, counseling and
    committee work. He had been a pastor at several churches in the Portland area, including St. Rose,
    St. Patrick's and St. John the Baptist. He also taught and counseled at Central Catholic High School.
    Survivors include his sister, Henrietta; and nieces and nephews.
