 Shiv Nadar,is an Indian entrepreneur,the ex-Chief Executive
Officer of Hindustan Computers Limited (HCL), India's largest
infotech .
 He, was presented the Padma Bhushan, the country’s third
highest civilian honour, by President Pratibha Devisingh Patil in
2008.
 Madras University awarded him honorary doctorate degree for
his contributions in promoting software technology in 2007.
 He received an honorary fellowship from All India Management
Association-AIMA in 2006 .
 Birth of HCL

 In 1976, six young engineers working at Delhi Cloth Mills, DCM

including Shiv Nadar , decided to quit their jobs and start a
venture of their own.
 Initially they sold digital calculators in the Indian market under
the brand name “Televista” .
 The founders put together Rs 20 lakh (Rs 2 million) to manufacture
the computer from scratch and HCL was born.
 Foreign companies like IBM left the country due to the policies
adopted by the then Industrial minister George Fernandes in 1977.
 It created a market space for the microcomputer in India.
 Focus on Education

 To boost the IT education in India Shiv Nadar, invested as

a share holder in NIIT education .

 In 1996, Shiv Nadar founded SSN College of Engineering in

Chennai, Tamil Nadu in the name of his father – Sri
Sivasubramaniya Nadar.

 Nadar’s SSN Trust started Vidyagyan schools in UP for rural

students where free scholarship are provided to poor
students
 Hindustan Computers Ltd today is an empire worth $3.5 billion
with staff strength of 34,000 ,work as two strategic unit HCL
Technologies and HCL Infosystems.

 Roshni Nadar, daughter of Mr Shiv Nadar, has taken over as the

Executive Director and CEO of HCL Corporation.

 In a short span of time, Shiv Nadar has reached pinnacle of

success by his hardwork, vision, and entrepreneurial spirit.
