CPR

Basic Check

Check Scene
Tap and Shout
Call 911
Head Tilt/Chin Lift
Look, Listen, & Feel (10 seconds)
Give 2 breaths

Conscious Choking

“Keep Coughing”
Call 911
Get Permission
Stand to Victims side
Place your hand in front of the victim on their opposite shoulder
Tilt the victim forward
Give 5 back blows between the victims shoulder blades
Move to stand behind the victim with one foot between their feet
Find the belly button
Place one finger on belly button
Make a fist with other hand and place it thumb side in just over the belly button
Grab fist with other hand
Pull in and up 5 times
If object still blocks airway repeat back blows and abdominal thrusts until airway is clear

CPR

Check scene
Tap and shout
Call 911
Head Tilt/Chin Lift
Look, listen and feel (10 seconds)
Give 2 breaths
Place heel of hand on center of chest
Put other hand on top and lock fingers
Lock elbows
Have shoulders straight over hands
Push down 2 inches
Compress chest 30 times
Give 2 breaths
Continue 30 compressions and 2 breaths for 2 minutes
Re check for signs of life.
Unconscious Choking

Check scene
Tap and shout
Call 911
Head Tilt/Chin Lift
Look, listen and feel (10 seconds)
Give 2 breaths
Breaths do not go in retilt head and give 2 breaths again
Place heel of hand on center of chest
Put other hand on top and lock fingers
Lock elbows
Have shoulders straight over hands
Push down 2 inches
Compress chest 30 times
Check mouth for any objects
Give 2 breaths
Continue 30 compressions, mouth check, and 2 breaths for 2 minutes
Re check for signs of life.

AED

Pad placement “Upper Right, Lower Left”


If the AED says, “No shock Advised”, give 2 more minutes of CPR
Why should no one be touching the victim?
Either: The bystander will be shocked
Or the AED will not analyze the rhythm
