This  in  only  a  “worked  example”  of  a  pass  grade  attempt  at  Part  B  of  Assessment  1

ASSESSMENT  1:  PART  2

Take  four  of  the  topics  from  your  concept  map.  For  each  topic,  identify

• A  key  point  of  content
• An  application  to  the  classroom
• A  question
• Meaningful  links  to  other  topic.

 EXAMPLE:  Student-‐Centered  Teaching

a)  A  key  point  of  content

Helping  students  take  an  active  role  in  their  learning  by  allowing  the
teaching  process  to  be  directed  by  the  student’s  responses  and  then  building
on  their  understanding.

b)  Application  to  the  classroom

In  an  adolescent  English  classroom  students  could  be  split  into  groups  to
discuss  the  themes  and  meanings  in  a  piece  of  text.  From  the  answers  that
were  given  the  teacher  could  direct  a  class  discussion  delving  further  into  the
identified  themes.

c)  A  question

Although  student  centered  teaching  is  effective  for  deep  learning,  are  some
concepts  better  taught  by  rote  and  teacher-‐centered  methods?

d)  Meaningful  link  to  other  topic

Constructivist  teaching  practices  display  many  of  the  general  practices  that
contribute  to  student-‐centered  teaching.
