Factorization of algebraic expressions

1. Factorizing is the reverse process of expanding.

 ab+ ac=a ( b+ c )
 a 2−b2= ( a+b ) ( a−b )
 a 2+2 ab+ b2=(a+b)2
 a 2−2 ab+b2 =(a−b)2
 ac +ad +bc +bd=( a+b ) ( c+ d)
2. Find the HCF from algebraic expressions

Example:
a) 3 x , 9 1) 6p,8q

b) 10 h2 ,5 hk 2) 27 k 2 , 3 km

c) 3 w , 5 w 2 3) 5 s , s 2

3. Factorize the following:

 ab+ ac=a ( b+ c )

Example 1) ab−b
a) mn−n

b) 12 h2 k−9h 2)3 ab−9 a2

c) 6 abc +9 b 2 c 3) 14 u2 v −21uvw
4. Factorize the following:
 a 2−b2= ( a+b ) ( a−b )

Example 1) x 2−25
a) p2−9

b) 4 p 2−1 2) 16 r 2−1

c)4 h2−25 k 2 3) 9 c 2−49 d 2

d) 8 m 2−50 n2 4)5 x 2−5

e) 12 w2−75 5) 5 u2−80
