c Pizza

The true reason it was called µPizza Hut¶ is because when Dan and Frank
Carney got the sign to put in front of their first restaurant in µWichita, Kansas¶ there was only
enough room for a three letter word after Pizza.

Pizza Hut was founded in 1958 by two brothers, Dan and Frank Carney, in Wichita,
Kansas. A family friend gave them the idea of opening a pizza parlor, and while the concept was
relatively new at the time, the brothers quickly saw the potential of this new enterprise.
Borrowing $600 from their mother, they purchased second-hand equipment and rented a small
building on a busy intersection in Wichita, Kansas. The result of their efforts was the first Pizza
Hut and the foundation for what would become the largest and most successful pizza restaurant
in the world. Today Pizza Hut chain has nearly 34,000 restaurants, delivery-carry out units, and
kiosks in 100 countries.
