•Land, a critically important national resource.
•Supports all living organisms including plants.
•Supports primary production system .
•Forms the basis of roads, industries, communication and storage
•Storage for surface and ground water.
HOW IS LAND A “RESOURCE”?
•Agrarian base for rural as well as urban economy.
•Provides access to water
•Supports urban expansions.
•Lifeline of increasing population.
•Form the basis of economic development.

LAND RESOURCE IN INDIA:


•India occupies a land area of around 3287263 sq.km.
•Land resources in India agricultural, commercial, farmland, barren land, real estate
land and residential land.
•54.7 % of total land is for agricultural use.
Land as a resource in relation to real estate and housing:
•Land is under tremendous pressure due to ever increasing population and high rate
of urbanization.
•People are becoming mobile due to transferable job, therefore need of houses and
apartment have greatly increased.
•Services and infrastructure facility for growing population, further increase pressure
on land

Results:
•High price of land.
•Scarcity of land
•More and more land are being brought under residential and commercial use.
•Every international brand are trying to make their presence felt in the Indian market,
building up colossal marts market plaza & shopping complexes.
•Strong competition to acquire farmlands, havelis, beaches and spaces around
naturescape
•What can be done?
•Fairness and improvement in the role of bureaucracy in land distribution.
•Relaxation in building bye laws.
•Waste land and barren land should be brought under construction.
