Encouraging starts for Colin Edwards

and Cal Crutchlow!
The MotoGP 2011 contenders came last Sunday to
the Losail international track, for the first round of the
season.
Apart from being awaited by enthusiasts of this sport,
the event was special in that it took place at night.
Of the two teams supported technically by Motul and
taking part in this 2011 world championship, Team
Yamaha Tech3 honourably completed this first 2011
round by pocketing a total of 13 points in the general
standings. Colin Edwards indeed managed to climb to
eighth position just behind a certain … Valentino Rossi!
For his first MotoGP race, Cal Crutchlow, for his part,
demonstrated he had all the required qualities to pro-
gress in this sport, by clinching eleventh place.
It was a morose weekend, on the other hand, for Team
Rizla Suzuki which couldn’t start the race due to Alvaro
Bautista’s fall during the third test session. He has suf-
fered a fracture of the left thighbone and will be repla-
ced by John Hopkins at the Jerez Grand Prix in April.

Sport auto & handicap 2011

Motorsport and Handicap 2011: A genuine success

“Making what seems impossible accessible”, that’s the
reason for this event organised by the Order of Malta in
cooperation with the Order of Saint-Jean for the bene-
fit of the handicapped.
On 19 March a hundred or so residents, from a dozen
homes for the handicapped and drop-in centres in the
Ile de France region, were offered first-time rides on a
track on board sports cars, GT cars or prestige cars,
at the legendary Linas-Montlhéry track.
Like many other partners, Motul was present to support
this fine initiative combining passion and solidarity.
Thousands of smiles were generated during the day,
and a chairty auction sale, helped by magnificent gifts,
was also reason to smile!

Rob Whyte wins the Nizzpro Series 2011

As promised in Motul Sport News No. 06, the end-of-
season duel for the award of the Nizzpro Series title
was enthralling between Rob Whyte (winner of rounds
3 & 4) and Eugene Arendsen (winner of rounds 1 & 2).
Indeed, as equal leaders of the championship following
the fourth round, the Team Motul Nismo Australia drivers
managed to maintain suspense even in the last final of
the fifth and last round of the season on 13 March.
Following this final, which they won’t easily forget, it was
finally Rob Whyte who won despite mechanical trouble
at the beginning of the meeting. After the pole position
he secured earlier in the day and this win in the final, the

Team DG Sport training at Albacete
Apart from organising riding lessons and riding days
known to motorcyclists throughout Europe, and of
which Motul is a partner, DG Sport is also a racing
team participating in the World Endurance Cham-
pionship (Superstock category).
In this framework, this Belgian team participated
in its first 2011 tests on the Albacete track for two
days. Olivier Depoorter, the team’s new rider took
advantage of the opportunity to get to know his
team mate Raymond Schouten. While both of them
discovered their motorcycle in its 2011 version, on
the other hand, Denis Bouan (the third rider) was
absent.

Despite cold and rainy weather on these two days and
an impressive fall by Raymond Schouten (fortunately
not serious), Olivier Aerts, Team DG Sport manager,
was nevertheless pleased with this first test session:
“I’m very satisfied with our tests, above all if we place
in the balance the fact that Olivier was discovering
the R1! We feel we’ve found a good set-up for the
chassis. Raymond was very lucky, so to speak, with
his accident and I hope he’ll soon regain total confi-
dence in himself. For his part, Olivier has progressed
well. A third day would have been ideal. However,
we’ll soon be at Magny-Cours and will at last be able
to compare ourselves with our main rivals”.
