1. Lords of the Andes Along our route to and from La Cruz del Condor we
stop and walk through pristine landscapes, in among
Lords of the Andes: this is the name by which the
Colca Valley’s famous condors are known. Start your the canyon’s flora and fauna as it has existed,

adventure early in the morning by heading through
the towns of Yanque, Maca and Pinchillo to reach the
Cruz del Condor viewpoint. This is where the birds
put on their dramatic display: wings outstretched,
riding the thermal currents.
On the way back, the viewpoints of Antahuilque and
Choquetico offer more breathtaking landscapes. Our
last stop is Maca, known for its pretty church and its
famous tame eagle Juan el Bueno.

3. Religion and Architecture
Follow the circuit of churches in the valley and travel back into the past. These delightful baroque and rococo
buildings adorn the towns of Achola, Maca and Pinchillo.
Other highlights include the church of San Juan Bautista in Ichupampa which still holds its original collection of
Cusquena School paintings, while the 18th-century Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion de Chivay is a feast of
architecture and atmosphere. The tour finishes in the exceptionally beautiful La Inmaculada Concepcion in
Yanque, where the Orden Mercedaria was established in the 16th century.

4. Valley Churches: Religion and Architecture of the Conquistadors

We visit Yanque, setting of the beautiful Inmaculada Concepcion church, then continue to the Sifon river to see the
'collcas', where food was stored during pre-Inca times. Our next stop, Coporaque, is known for its pretty central
square and church built on ancient stones. We then drive to the top of the San Miguel mountain, where we see an
archaeological site that was once a ceremonial centre.

WALKING THROUGH HISTORY

5. An Encounter with History [Close encounters
with the Canyon]
This beautiful walk sets off from Las Casitas del Colca,
taking us through delightful countryside. Passing through
fields that have been farmed for centuries, we arrive at
Yanque, a traditional town where we visit its impressive
church, and, if time permits, the local museum.

6. The Heritage of the Collaguas
Our adventure takes us deep inside the culture of the Collaguas (the traditional inhabitants of the Colca Valley).
Starting at Las Casitas del Colca, we walk through the fields towards Yanque. On the way, we are likely to spot many
different kinds of birds, including the giant hummingbird, one of the canyon’s most famous native species. We then
visit the thermal baths of Yanque and the fascinating ruins of Uyu-Uyu, an old Inca settlement.

7. Towards the Colca Canyon [Into the San Galle Oasis]
Setting off from Las Casitas del Colca, we drive to Cabanaconde, location of the Cruz del Condor, where we see the
valley’s majestic ‘Lords of the Andes’ in flight.
We then descend to the San Galle Oasis, a paradise of palm trees and orchards, where we enjoy a lunch that includes
delicious locally-grown fruits. Our return is a real adventure: we ascend the mountain by mule to return to the
hotel.

 8. Discover The Canyon by horse
Up into the Hills
Exploring The Canyon on a Peruvian Caballo de Paso horse is
an unforgettable experience. From Las Casitas del Colca we
climb a hill that offers fabulous views of the towns of
Ichupampa and Yanque, and spectacular Inca terraces.

9. Biking through The Canyon
Our experienced guides will introduce you to The Colca
Valley in a fun, unusual and adventure-packed way.
Visit to Yanque Town
Setting off from Las Casitas del Colca, we ascend a
mountain and then return to Yanque, before cycling back
to the hotel through beautiful landscapes.

Descent from the Mismi Viewpoint via Chivay
Setting off from Las Casitas del Colca, we cycle to the
town of Chivay and then continue to Yanque to visit the
church and museum. Taking a pretty vehicle-free road, we
return to the hotel.
Visit to Ichupampa:
Setting off from Las Casitas del Colca, we head to
Yanque, where we visit the church and museum. Our
route takes us to the Thermal Baths of Chacapi
(optional visit , ticket not included). We then cross
the Cervantes bridge to reach the town of Ichupampa.

10. Exploring the Valley by Motorcycle or
Quad Bike
From Las Casitas del Colca we head to the thermal
baths near Yanque. On our way we stop to explore
the towns of Ichupampa, Lari, Maca and Achola ,
whose inhabitants wear brightly-embroidered costu-
mes and where many other aspects of traditional
culture still thrive.
