Maucallacta
Tour to
Maucallacta
in Paruro
Location
Maukallacta is one of the tourist attractions of
the Paccaritambo district, within the Paruro
province, in the department of Cusco. On our
trek to Maucallaqta we will visit some
Quechua villages.
History
Maukallaqta Inca city, planned and built
symmetrically with limestone, its main accesses
are elaborately worked double jambs, they are
works of exquisite architecture and engineering
and are built by platforms, fountains, channels,
retaining walls, waqas, kallancas, roads,
esplanades. and original streets of beautiful Inca
characteristics adapted to the topography of the
place.
Expanding its history a little more among the
different buildings that have been registered in this
archaeological complex, a great chullpa stands out.
The great chullpa has a height of 3 meters.
In this place legend and history are combined
because in addition to being an Inca settlement, in
the vicinity are the cave called Tampu Tok'o from
where the mythical Ayar brothers came out, who in
total were four Ayar Cachi, Ayar Uchu, Ayar Auca
and Ayar Manco.

We leave early from the city of Cusco,

crossing the mountains towards the
province of Paruro, passing through the
communities of Occopata, Yaurisque,
before reaching the community of Pomate
we will stop halfway down the road to start
a walk for a space of 10 minutes to the top
of the Mirador de Llaullicasa where we will
have a wonderful view of the different
Valleys. Then we will continue our trip to
the town of Yaurisque
Here we will stop for a moment to
appreciate the village church, which
was built with material from old houses.
These stones are still preserved from
pre-Inca times. We will start our walk to
the top of the Puma Orco hill, we will
observe numerous pumas carved in
limestone, possibly originally during the
Eocene - Oligocene period. At the base
of this hill is where the mythical caves
of the Ayar brothers are located.
We continue our way uphill, until we reach the
architectural complex of Maukallaqta where we
will show the importance of the place, because
here there is an enclosure decorated with niches
with three jambs, clearly a ritual site used by the
Incas. This archaeological site will also impress
us with its double jamb doors, two-level rooms,
ceremonial fountains and water channels. We
will enjoy box lunch, then we will go to the town
of Paccarectambo.
To then go to the Apurímac canyon where
we will find the Valley of the different
waterfalls such as the Purificación
waterfall, the wedding veil waterfall, the
Sirena waterfall. After this beautiful tour
we will go to the Province of Paruro to
