Operation management (om):- Is the process in which

resources /inputs are converted into more useful products.
Technology:-is defined to be the know - how physical things
and procedures used to produce products and services.
Information technology (IT) is "the study, design, development,
implementation, support or management of computer-
based information systems, particularly software applications
and computer hardware", according to the Information
Technology Association of America (ITAA) IT deals with the
use of electronic computers and computer
software to securely convert, store, protect, process, transmit, i
nput, output, and retrieve information.
Managers use information technology, to acquire, process and
transmit information so that they can make more effective
decision .IT pervades every functional area in an organization
office technology. Includes various types o telecommunication
systems, word processing, e- mail, computer graphics, the
internet and intranet.

Role of IT in OM
IT is crucial to operations every where along the supply chain
and to every functional area. Computer based information
technology, in particular ,has greatly influenced how operations
are managed and how offices work .it makes cross functional
coordination easier and links a firms basic process. In a
manufacturing plant, information technologies can link people
with the work centers.data bases and computers .

The present global business environment requires a firm to be
able to switch products quantity and economically .it should
also be able to coordinate with an international supply chain.
organisation should have ability and learning as priorities –in
their operations to compete in the global market .agile
organization are quick and flexible in their response to
changing customer requirements.
