How to install a certificate in Mac OS X

Before you can send your mail using smtpauth, you first need to setup your Mac so that it will work

with ITG's smtpauth certificate. ITG has created its own secure certificate to encrypt your mail as it

is sent to the server. By default, only a few commercial certificate authorities are configured by OS

X to be trusted. You need to add the smtpauth root certificate to the OS X Keychain.

The certificate file for ITG's secure smtp server (smtpauth.itg.ias.edu) can be downloaded here

(ctrl + click to download.)

Once the file is downloaded double-click it. It should automatically launch the Keychain Access

program, and prompt you to to install the certificate. If so, you will be presented with the following

window.

Choose X509Anchors from the dropdown list, and click the OK button.

If double-clicking on the certificate file does not launch the Keychain Access program, do the

following.

1. Go to Macintosh HD -> Applications -> Utilities

2. Find the Keychain Access program icon. Do NOT launch.

3. Drag the certificate file on top of the Keychain Access program icon.

4. You will be presented with the same windows as above. Follow the above instructions for

choosing the correct keychain type.
