The Five Senses
All About the Eye
 Are the most complex organs you possess
except for your brain.
 Are composed of more than two million
working parts.
 Can instantaneously set in motion
hundreds of muscles and organs in your
body.
 Eyes are your most precious sense

All About the Nose
 No two people smell the same odor the same
way. In other words, a rose may smell sweeter
to some people than to others.
 The average human being is able to recognize
approximately 10,000 different odors.
 Our sense of taste is greatly influenced by our
sense of smell.
 Your sense of smell is least acute in the
morning; our ability to perceive odors increases
as the day wears on.

All About the Ear
 In the course of hearing, sound waves
enter the auditory canal and strike the
eardrum, causing it to vibrate.
 Sounds that are 85 decibels or louder
such as heavy traffic, a noisy restaurant, a
screaming child, or a lawn mower can
cause hearing damage
 Once you have lost your hearing it’s gone!

Menu
All About the Tongue
 There are approximately 9,000 taste buds on the
tongue.
 Your tastes will change as you get older. Your
taste buds will become less sensitive.
 The appearance of the tongue is often an
indication of body health; a pinkish-red color is
normal. In impairment of the digestion and in
certain feverish diseases, a yellowish coating
forms.
 Taste is the weakest of the five senses.

Menu
All About Touch
 While your other four senses (sight, hearing, smell, and
taste) are located in specific parts of the body, your
sense of touch is found all over.
 Your sense of touch originates in the bottom layer of
your skin called the dermis.
 The nerve endings in your skin can tell you if something
is hot or cold.
 Pain receptors are probably the most important for your
safety because they can protect you by warning your
brain that your body is hurt!
 There are about 100 touch receptors in each of your
fingertips.
