LAST WEEK’S SOLUTION: “I like pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals.”
SIR WINSTON LEONARD SPENCER-CHURCHILL - Winston Churchill, a man who was once described as “The greatest living
Englishman,” was querulous, childish, self-indulgent, and difficult. But he was also brilliant, tenacious, and capable— in short, “the greatest
human being ever to occupy 10 Downing Street.”
©Puzzles by Pappacom Churchill recognized far earlier than his peers the dangers of Hitler’s regime. Churchill was strong with his leadership during the war years,
especially at the outset, when England stood alone and in imminent danger of defeat. Churchill struggled to forge political consensus to
meet that desperate crisis. His later years were plagued with health issues, forcing his retirement from politics. Churchill died in 1965,
not long after being made an honorary American citizen.—DW
