It is clearly obvious that the most popular qualification between males and females in
Australia in 1999 was the skilled vocational diploma, held by men. Interestingly, the diploma
that was so popular with men was dramatically unpopular with women.
It is evident that there was no overall trend in respect of either gender or qualification. While
women favoured the undergraduate diploma highly at 70%, they were less enthusiastic about
postgraduate diploma at just 30%. Similarly, whereas men preferred postgraduate diploma,
they did not have the same affection for the undergraduate diploma.
The long and short of it is that although some qualifications provoked more popular with one
gender or the other, there was no identifiable pattern in this regard. It would be difficult to
make any prediction on the statistics for most of these degrees or diplomas for years
following 1991.
