The chart below shows the different levels of post-school qualifications in Australia and the

proportion of men and women who held them in 1999.

The bar chart illustrates differences, between Australian male and female population, in achieving
post-school qualifications in 1999, such as Skilled Vocational Diploma, Undergraduate Diploma,
Bachelor’s Degree, Postgraduate Diploma and Master’s Degree. The units were measured in
percentage.

Overall, post-school qualification rate showed higher percentage for males in three out of five
qualifications, while woman scored higher in two out of five of them.

According to the chart, 90% of male population had a skilled vocational diploma, while 10% of
females had achieved the same qualification. The highest degree earned by 70% of women was an
undergraduate diploma, which is more than double the percentage of man. Females slightly
outnumbered males, with a ratio of 50% in those with bachelor’s degrees, as their highest level of
education. However, when comparing the genders of those who had earned post-graduate degrees,
men were far more numerous than women. Males completed 70% of post-graduate degrees, while
females completed 60% of master's degrees. On the contrary, only 30% of women completed a post-
graduate degree, and only 30% of those who earned a master's degree were female.
