In many western countries there is an increasing number of couples choosing to have no children.

What are the advantages and disadvantages to couples having no children?

Statistics have shown that married couples nowadays tend to focus more on their careers and
future, rather than forming a family that includes having children of their own. There are both
benefits and downsides of making thins kind of a decision, and there are arguments for both
perspectives.

To begin with the advantages of couples not wanting to become parents. This opens variety of other
opportunities for them. It allows them to improve their professional status because they have more
time on their hands to put focus on their careers. Having a child is a tremendous responsibility and it
requires a lot of dedication. Having a stable job and financial security is crucial for being able to
provide for your children. It goes without saying that a parent has to commit their whole life to
taking care of their child. Thus, for those who choose to not become parents, it is guaranteed to
have more free time and more savings, that they can freely decide on what to spend.

On the other hand, the downside of this decision is a possibility that when people get older, they will
have no one to take care of them and be there for them. Moreover, statistics have shown that
people who became parents have faced less depressive episodes throughout life. Explanation behind
that is a constant obligation that parents have, which is a wellbeing of their children, and therefore
they do not have as much time to think about the things that would bring them down mentally and
emotionally.

Taking into a consideration all the facts mentioned above, even though there are variety of benefits
of not being a parent, those do not outweigh the disadvantages of making such decision.
