Cloud Computing

There is a kind of revolution happening silently in computing, regarding the use of personal computers.
A kind of horizon shift! Everyone dreams to have a computer or laptop of their own. That is why the
name ‘personal computer’ or ‘personal desktop’ came into being. Imagine, each such personal machine
is self-sufficient, equipped with operating system (Microsoft or Linux or MAC or whatever) and all sorts
of software or drivers for doing photo editing, converting files, networking etc. You may feel proud of
accumulating all those software in your machine but think of the pain of installing all those into your
machine and then maintaining them as they often malfunction over and over again. What if someone
takes the pain of doing all that and you enjoy doing your work in your machine uninterruptedly? This is
precisely the idea of cloud computing! This is very much in making. The next generation computation is
already following this. This is completely a radical idea, a new concept which is more likely going to
change the mode of computation altogether. Predictably, there will be a major impact of this
technological shift on the functioning of IT industries, educational research, office jobs or social
networking.

The word ‘cloud’ is a metaphor here as if what you require for your computation is coming from up the
cloud! In fact, the service providers are there to cater your needs.

Cloud computing is important when one thinks of what IT Industries always need: a way to increase the
capacity or add capabilities without investing in new infrastructure, training new personnel, or licensing
new software. Cloud computing is at an early stage, with only a few providers large and small in the
market and the popularity is only on the rise.
