Front Cover Designs

From looking at other magazine front pages I found that elements such as images and
storylines shouldn’t be overdone; therefore I decided to attempt designing layouts that
would not clutter my page and give the majority of the attention of the magazine to the
main image. I chose to use the second layout as I thought it followed these ideas well.
Contents Page Image

With my contents page I wanted to create something that would use both images and text
to fill the page with not too much but enough information so that my reader would be
able to navigate through the magazine efficiently. I decided on the first layout as it
includes enough information and keeps simplicity to ensure it is not confusing for my
reader.
Double Page Designs

For my double page spread I found that the idea of ‘the ‘rule of thirds’ with images is
very common and effective. I made sure this technique was used in all my layouts to fit
with the usual magazine conventions. I chose to use my first design for my double page
spread. To make sure all needs of the reader were met in terms of a blend of text and
images I thought of using faded images in the background of the text so the block text
looks more interesting. I feel my double page would work well with the ideas for my
magazine.
