GAY AND AIDS

BY MEROLINE ANDIKA

Homosexuality involves having sexual intercourse amongst people of the same sex. Gay entails a
man having sexual relations with a fellow man.

Did you know that the gay are also at a risk of being infected with HIV/AIDS? The gay practice
anal sex or rather practices sex against law of nature thus increasing their chances of infection.

Gay is outlawed in Kenya and this makes most of the gay to practice heterosexual relations.
They tend to lead normal sexual life while at the same time engage in homosexuality. Statistics
show that 65% of men having sex with men {MSM} are married. This leads to high rate of
infection across board.

Despite gay being against the law, does the gay have any right? Are they any different from you
and me?

It’s high time we all woke up to reality. Lets all bear in mind that AIDS does not differentiate
between homo and heterosexuality. They are our brothers and friends. If at all we have to curb
this monster, the government need to address this issue amicably, let there be no discrimination.

Why can’t our doctors be trusted? Why can’t the msm confide in the doctors? Doctors need to
build trust with the MSM. Let them be treated like human being. The doctors should not look
down upon the msm.

ARVs is the only potential preventer of HIV, then why can’t the msm gain access to them? Who
is entitled to ARVs anyway? Keep in mind that we are talking of marginalized community of
which 65% are lawfully married. The level of infection is so high in such like cases.

Not all of us came from the same womb. We were all raised differently. How then are we
expected to respond uniformly to certain calls?

Homosexuality is just in our midst. We can’t run away but we all have to look for away to
manage this problem.

Someone is knocking on your door; he needs your assistance and care. Let us hearken to this
call. Msms need prevention from AIDS, your moral and spiritual guidance. Let us socialize
with these people. May be they will one day see sense out of your words. You never know you
might the redeemer.
