    Cambridge European
    ESOL exams Framework
    (Main Suite) level
    Advanced Certificate of C2 Able to communicate for extended
    Proficiency in Mastery periods on a wide range of topics. Make
    English (CPE) very few errors of accuracy, have a wide
    & idiomatic vocabulary.
    Upper Certificate in C1 Can communicate well though still make
    Intermediate Advanced Effective minor accuracy mistakes. Still have
    English (CAE) Operational some problems understanding idiomatic
    Proficiency vocabulary.
    Intermediate First Certificate B2 Able to communicate in English, though
    in English (FCE) Vantage still with lots of errors. Aware of all main
    tenses and grammar structures. Quite
    high level of vocabulary. Many students
    have reached a learning plateau and get
    stuck at this level.
    Pre- Preliminary B1 Can communicate with partial success.
    intermediate English Test Threshold Able to use basic grammar structures,
    (Lower (PET) still rapidly learning new vocabulary.

    Elementary Key English A2 Able to use simple tenses & everyday
    Test (KET) Waystage vocabulary items. Difficulty
