Kent Fowler, DVM, attended the University of California, Davis, and
received a BS in Animal Science in 1973 and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1977. For the next 26 years he practiced veterinary medicine in a large animal practice in the Central Coast region of California, specializing in equine medicine and surgery. In February 2004, Dr. Fowler joined California Department of Food and Agriculture working as a Veterinary Medical Officer in Animal Health Branch Emergency Programs. In August 2004, he was designated as "lead" for Emergency Programs and was promoted to Animal Health Branch (AHB) Chief in August of 2005. He has spent considerable time working with Foreign Animal Disease response, carcass disposal, County Livestock Disease Disaster Plans, agroterrorism issues, and emergency rapid notification systems. His current position as AHB Chief, requires oversight on all of the CDFA regulatory disease programs and administrator of the Animal Health Branch.
