Punic Wars
The wars are known as the Punic Wars because Punica was the Roman name for Carthage. Carthage was a city on the north coast of Africa. The Romans fought 3 wars against Carthage.
-202 B.C. Hannibal suffers his first decisive defeat by a Roman army, at an unidentified site in north Africa called Zama. -201 B.C Carthaginian Spain is handed over to Rome to become two new provinces, at the end of the Second Punic War. -149 B.C. Rome picks a quarrel with Carthage to begin the Third Punic War. -146 B.C Carthage is destroyed by the Romans at the end of the Third Punic War.
