Megger Test Procedure

1) Winding Continuity test using a standard ohmmeter 2) Star - Insulation test using a megger with leads 4,7 5,8 6,9 connected and checking to ground 3) Winding to Winding test using a megger

Step #1 Winding Continuity Test

Procedure:

With 4,7 5,8 6,9 connected together, perform a standard continuity test between 1,2 1,3 2,3 to make sure there are NO BLOWN OPEN windings within the motor.

NOTES:

Step #2 STAR - Insulation Leak Test

Procedure:

Note: for safety you may keep the setting on ohms until ready to test With 4,7 5,8 6,9 connected together, 1) connect green megger lead to a good solid motor ground 2) Connect RED lead to #1 then press 1000 volt RED test button 3) Move RED lead to #2 and repeat, and move RED lead to #3 and repeat the test RESULT: you are looking for HIGH MEG OHMS

Winding-to-Winding

Step #3

Insulation Leak Test T 2,5 T 1,4 T 7,8,9

T 3,6

Procedure:

After connecting the windings as shown on the right , MEGGER as follows: 1) a) Connect GREEN lead to T 7,8,9 and RED lead T 1,4 and do 1000V test b) Leave GREEN lead on T7,8,9 and RED lead T2,5 and do 1000V test c) Leave GREEN lead on T7,8,9 and RED lead T 3,6 and do 1000V test 2) d) Connect GREEN lead to T 1,4 and RED lead T 2,5 and do 1000V test e) Connect GREEN lead to T 1,4 and RED lead T 3,6 and do 1000V test f ) Connect GREEN lead to T 2,5 and RED lead T 3,6 and do 1000V test
