Grammar Simple Present Tense

SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE


The simple present is used : To shown an action happening now - See how she walks. - Look,my friend, it comes. For a habitual or repeated action - He comes every day.
- I sleep every night.

To state a fact or general truth - The world is round. - The earth goes round the sun. The future action that has been planned. - My sister leaves for Ipoh on Tuesday. To refer to something which is true at the stated time. - Sue teaches in a school. - Shahirah lives in Penang. For exclamations; to express what is taking place at the present. - Here comes the bus.

Introduces quatations or proverbs. - There is a proverb which states that too many cooks spoil the soup.

With when,as soon as,until,if,as though to show possible actions in the future. - When he returns, he will be really happy.

 Singular form (he / she / it)


- s is added to the verbs - Example : 1.He talks 2.She laughs

 Plural form (they / we / I /you)


- no s is added to the verbs - Example : 1.They talk 2.We laugh

 Active form
- Example : Roni washes the clothes every morning.

 Passive form
- Example : The clothes are washed by Roni every morning.

Simple Present Tense : Negative


In the simple present tense, negative forms and question forms are made using the auxiliary verb do. Forming a negative --- Negatives in the simple present are formed by adding don't or doesn't before the simple form of the verb. In other words, only third person singular subjects (he, she and it) have doesn't the rest have don't.

Simple Present Tense :Interrogative


Interrogative sentence also means question. The verb may not end in S. Example : Interrogative (Question) 1. Does he come? 2. Does she write? 3. Does it rain? 4. Does Razi run? 5. Does the girl cry?

 Note : When we speak, we usually change ; a) do not to dont b) does not to doesnt  So we should say : He doesnt know. Not : He dont know.

Simple Present Tense : Affirmative


Also known as statement forms . Example: 1. e comes. 2. She writes. 3. The girl cries. 4. The bird flies.
