Bible Story: Parable of the Roadside Rescue (Luke 10:25-37) Get Connected
Today your child heard a story Jesus told to teach about compassionwhat it means to love God and love others. A man was traveling on a road from Jerusalem to Jericho when he was beaten. It is assumed that the injured man was a Jew. The Samaritans and the Jews were not on friendly terms, yet it was a Samaritan who showed compassion. He used olive oil to treat the wounds and he paid for shelter and food at an inn. A priest and Levite, both religious leaders, crossed to the other side of the road and kept walking, refusing to help. The man from Samaria had compassion on the injured man and thus served his neighbor. Jesus expects those who follow Him to do the same.

The

Compassion
With your child, pack a first-aid kit that can be easily transported wherever you go. Purchase a clear cosmetic bag and decide together what should go in the bag. Discuss the purpose of each item as you put it into the bag, reminding your child that only an adult is allowed to use the bag. Talk about how the Samaritan man was ready to help the injured man and that by keeping your first-aid kit handy, you too can help someone when needed.

Bible Memory Fun Psalm 25:4, 5

Find these verses in a family Bible. Together, practice saying the Bible words. Put individually wrapped adhesive bandages within the pages of the Bible. In a circle, pass the Bible to each person. Whenever a bandage is found, say the Bible Memory together.

Talking with God

Use these thoughts at mealtime, bedtime, or another time when you pray with your child today. God, thank You for the story of the Samaritan. Help me to be kind to others. Dear God, please help (name of someone who is sick).
