product symbolism

In practice, designers use the term product symbolism to describe the human values aspect of the product. To describe a products symbolism, therefore, is to describe the personal and social values embodied in the products appearance. The way a product symbolizes its own function is known as product semantics (literally product meaning).

product semantics

Ideally, product semantics should also make the product look like it works better than any other product. So, product semantics does not just make a product say this is what I do. It also says this is how l do it better than my competitors. The outcome of the planning stage of product semantics should be a list of this is what I do and this is what I do best statements.
