Corruption Forms of corruption vary, but include bribery, extortion, cronyism, nepotism, patronage, graft, and embezzlement. While corruption may facilitate criminal enterprise such as drug trafficking, money laundering, and human trafficking, it is not restricted to these activities. In some cases, government officials have broad or poorly defined powers, which make it difficult to distinguish between legal and illegal actions. Worldwide, bribery alone is estimated to involve over 1 trillion US dollars annually.A state of unrestrained political corruption is known as a kleptocracy, literally meaning "rule by thieves". Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) The Corruption Perceptions Index scores countries on a scale from 0 to 10, with 0 indicating high levels of perceived corruption and 10 indicating low levels of perceived corruptionSomalia and Burma share the lowest score of 1.4. survey focuses on corruption in the public sector and among politicians, and the organisation defines corruption as 'the misuse of entrusted power for private gain'. Corruption in India According to Transparency International's Corruption Perception Index (CPI), India is one of the least corrupt governments in South Asia. It has a CPI score of 3.3 (rank 87th), compared to Pakistan (2.3, rank 143th), Bangladesh (2.4, rank 134th), Nepal (2.2, rank 146th), and Sri Lanka (3.2, rank 92nd). A 2005 study done by Transparency International in India found that more than 75% of the people had firsthand experience of paying bribe or peddling influence to get any type of job done in a public office Transparency International estimates that truckers pay annually US$5 billion in bribes Corruption has taken the role of a persistent aspect of Indian politics and administration
